We are proud to announce the latest winners in our much celebrated Leisureplex Hotel yearly awards programme.
These highly coveted awards are judged on the work put in by each of our 21 Leisureplex Hotel teams over the past twelve months.
The awards are determined as follows:
Hotel of the Year
The Hotel of the Year award is based on the feedback from questionnaires received from Alfa guests covering areas such as food quality, housekeeping and entertainment. We think this makes it all the more special for the winning hotels as we believe our guests like to be involved in ensuring we provide the best holiday experience.
Hotel Manager of the Year
The Hotel Manager of the Year award is based on feedback from questionnaires received from guests as well as compliance with company policies, operational inspections, financial audits and trading profit.
Leisureplex Hotel of the Year 2015 – Winner – Croit Anna Hotel in Fort William
With breathtaking views of Loch Linnhe, the Croit Anna Hotel in Fort William has become a firm favourite amongst the Leisureplex Hotel estate, as rated by the guests of Alfa Travel & Leisureplex Hotels, winning the coveted “Leisureplex Hotel of the Year Award 2015”.
The Croit Anna was Leisureplex’s 15th acquisition, bought from a local family, The Morgans, in December 2002. Since acquiring the Croit Anna, the company has invested heavily in creating 10 additional en-suite bedrooms and refurbishing most of the remaining 81 bedrooms and all of the 11 staff bedrooms. All of the public space has also been refurbished to a high standard.
Clair Adams, a local to Fort William, has been the General Manager at the Croit Anna for some 5 years and she has led the operation from strength to strength, although the modest Clair believes “the Croit Anna is so well liked by our Alfa and Leisureplex guests because of the amazing staff, most of whom have worked at the hotel for many years. I feel so privileged to have such a fantastic team”.
Karen Sawbridge, Operations Director of Leisureplex Hotels has said “I am so incredibly proud of Clair Adams and the great team at the Croit Anna. It has been such a pleasure for me to watch Clair, who is a busy Mother of two young children, manage to successfully balance her home and work life and still improve the guest satisfaction in Fort William year on year. All of the Leisureplex Hotel teams are fantastic, so for the Croit Anna to get the 1 st spot, is a massive achievement. My grateful thanks go to both Clair and all of our staff in Fort William.”
Leisureplex Hotel of the Year 2015 – runner up – George IV Hotel in Criccieth
Every year for the past 6 years, the George IV Hotel in Criccieth has managed to get a top 3 spot amongst the 21 Leisureplex Hotels, in terms of guest satisfaction. 2015 saw this tremendous achievement continue, with the staff at the George IV Hotel being pipped to the post by their Fort William colleagues by just 1 point.
Hamid Khoshneviszadeh, who has been the General Manager in Criccieth since shortly after Leisureplex acquired the hotel (August 2007) said “my team at the George IV Hotel are simply outstanding, they go the extra mile every day, to make sure our guests have the best possible holiday. All of my Heads of Department have worked tirelessly day in and day out to provide the absolute best possible experience for the guests. However, we clearly need to try even harder, if we’re going to win the top spot in 2016, which everyone in Criccieth is determined to do”.
Karen Sawbridge said “Hamid and his team in Criccieth have long been the envy of their colleagues, because of their consistent achievement of excellence. To lose out by just one point (534 points as opposed to 535 which the Croit Anna team achieved) is evidence of the very high standards and just how tight the competition really has become. My fellow board directors and I cannot praise nor thank Hamid and his team in Criccieth enough. A very big well done to everyone at the George IV Hotel.”
Leisureplex Hotel of the Year 2015 –3rd place – Hydro Hotel in Llandudno
Emil Hristov, General Manager at the Hydro Hotel for the last 3 years, along with his team in Llandudno have been voted the 3rd best Leisureplex Hotel in 2015, narrowly missing out on the top spot by just 2 points (533 points). Considering Emil and the rest of the team in Llandudno looked after just shy of 50,000 sleepers in 2015 (making it the busiest hotel in the estate of 21 hotels), this is a tremendous achievement.
The Hydro Hotel was the first ever acquisition made by the Sawbridge family in 1984 and it’s long been a very popular choice for Alfa Travel and Leisureplex guests.
Emil Hristov said “the credit for achieving the continued very high standard of guest satisfaction in Llandudno rightly belongs to the staff at the Hydro, many of whom have worked for Leisureplex Hotels for more than 5 years and in some cases for more than 10 years. Not only do I, but all of my team members, really enjoy providing the best possible level of customer satisfaction.”
Karen Sawbridge said “you have to really admire Emil and his team at the Hydro, being the busiest and most popular hotel means that there’s almost never any time for respite. However, the team in Llandudno genuinely enjoy their jobs so much, that it doesn’t feel like work. The Hydro staff so narrowly lost out on winning the 1st place, although I know they’re ready for the challenge of making sure they get 1st place in 2016. Many congratulations to Emil and everyone in Llandudno.”
Leisureplex Hotel Manager of the Year 2015 Awards:
Winner – Emil Hristov – Hydro Hotel in Llandudno
As we can see from the hotel of the year awards, Emil has done a fantastic job of managing the Leisureplex Hydro Hotel in Llandudno. Congratulations Emil on this truly deserved award!
Runner Up – Hamid Khoshneviszadeh – George IV Hotel in Criccieth
It was a close race to the top, with only 12 points between Emil and Hamid! Hamid sets very high standards at the George IV Hotel in Criccieth and as we have seen from the hotel of the year awards, every effort is made to ensure our guests receive the best possible service.
3rd Place – Lucas Jans – Royal Norfolk Hotel in Bognor Regis
Lucas Jans first started working for Leisureplex Hotels in 2002 as a work experience student at the Regina Hotel in Torquay, whilst he was studying for his degree in his native country of Poland. Once Lucas had successfully obtained his degree he returned to work for Leisureplex Hotels on a permanent basis, initially as a Restaurant Supervisor, then as a Trainee Hotel Manager, before becoming the General Hotel Manager at our Croit Anna Hotel in Fort William in 2005. Over the last 10 years, Lucas has gained invaluable management experience, working as a General Hotel Manager before taking on the elevated role of Area Manager, with the additional responsibility of training future General Hotel Managers.
Lucas is now well settled at the Royal Norfolk Hotel in Bognor Regis, where he’s been based since June 2010, when Leisureplex acquired this hotel. Lucas has consistently performed at the highest level, since becoming a General Hotel Manager, being placed in the top 3 every year throughout this period.
Lucas Jans said “Rather like the other General Hotel Managers said, we’re all only as good as our team and my team at the Royal Norfolk Hotel in Bognor Regis are so committed to achieving excellence in all they do, that my job as the Leader is really made a lot easier. Year on year I wonder where my consistently high performing staff get their energy level and the desire to ensure that our guests have the best possible experience, so I am very proud of them.”
Karen Sawbridge said “Lucas Jans plays a massive contribution in the day to day standards achieved throughout the entire Leisureplex hotel estate. Indeed, Lucas has trained either directly or indirectly 9 of the existing General Hotel Managers. As a Board of Directors, we are very impressed with Lucas’s enviable track record and we pass on our gratitude to him. Good luck in the 2016 competition Lucas.”
Leisureplex Most Improved Hotel Manager of the Year 2015 – Bartek Maron
Bartek Maron was our youngest ever General Hotel Manager, taking over the reins at the Regina Hotel in Torquay in 2006. Since this time, Bartek has grown so well into the role and his performance in 2015 was simply outstanding. Not only did Bartek tick all of the boxes, in terms of guest satisfaction in 2015, but he scored very highly with the company’s inspectors who have a regime of completing operational and financial inspections and he controlled the hotel’s wages and other significant cost areas, such as food consumption, extremely well.
Bartek Maron said “I was so shocked to get this award, because all of the Leisureplex General Hotel Managers do such a fantastic job, but nevertheless I’m both honoured and thrilled. When I first started managing the Regina Hotel, it felt as though I had got a big mountain to climb, but thanks to my colleagues, who have helped develop my management skills, along with my staff who have fully supported me, I feel as though I have finally achieved what I always strived for.”
Karen Sawbridge said “it is such a delight to employ Bartek, whom used to be affectionately known as the “marmite within Leisureplex”, because so many guests thought he was amazing, whilst he managed to also rub others up the wrong way. However, Bartek has learnt from his experience and time with Leisureplex and he is now a truly fantastic General Hotel Manager. Very well done to you Bartek and keep up the excellent work”.
