VE Day Celebrations

2025 will mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) on 8 May.

It is an opportunity for the nation to come together to honour and pay tribute to the Second World War generation from across the UK and the Commonwealth, through a series of national and local events and activities.

VE Day events happing in our Leisureplex Hotel resorts

As well as the various celebration events, a selection of which are listed below, hundreds of Becons will be lit across the county at 9:30PM on Thursday 8th May. 

Scottish Borders

Kelso, less than 30 minutes from the Waverley Castle Hotel has been nominated to celebrate VE Day for the Scottish Borders with a community event on the 8th May. The Border town and Floors Castle are inviting residents and visitors to come along and join in.

Sandown, Isle of Wight

The Bayshore Hotel in Sandown will be enjoying three piece band performing a  special VE Day singsong in the afternoon. With lots of songs from the era, and a VE Day quiz there is lots to enjoy on the 8th from the comfort of the hotel.

Weymouth

On Saturday, 10th May 2025, there will be a special live music concert on Weymouth Seafront to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. This free event will showcase a diverse lineup of local bands and musicians performing across various genres.

Dunoon

Weston-super-Mare

The Birnbeck Regeneration Trust is hosting a street party style event at the prom by Birnbeck Pier on Thursday 8 May from 11am to 4pm. Learn how the HMS Birnbeck helped with the war effort, enjoy live music and find out more about the history of Birnbeck Pier.

Bournemouth

VE Day Commemorations take place at the War Memorial and on the beach.  The Beacon will be lit at 9:30pm

Blackpool

VE Day 80 Celebration Event. Tower Festival Headland, Blackpool Promenade. 7.30pm – 9.30pm

Performances from Dad’s Army Band and George Formby tribute. Singer Beverley Alexander will lead a communal rendition of I Vow to Thee My Country.

Porthcawl

Porthcawl Museum is hosting a celebration on Saturday, the 10th May 10am – 3pm. With WW2 Singalong, Evacuees Return Home experience as well as memorabilia and vehicles on display.
