Set in Scotland's first National Park, Dunoon is two great resorts in one: a traditional seaside resort with marvellous sea views and plenty of amenities and a base from which to explore the rugged mountains of Argyll - some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland. It has lovely gardens, the remains of a castle, a four mile promenade and a 19th Century pier with panoramic views across the Clyde. Pleasure cruises run throughout the summer months sailing to destinations ranging from Loch Goil to Largs and Rothesay. You may even catch the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world, the Waverley, which is still a regular visitor to Dunoon. Nearby sports facilities include an indoor swimming pool, bowling greens, tennis courts and golf courses. There is a cinema and in the season, a range of entertainment at the Queens Hall. The resort stages international jazz and dance festivals and hosts the Cowal Highland Gathering, the biggest highland games festival.
Dunoon has one of the largest town centres in the area. Its main street is partially pedestrianised and is filled with shops selling an array of goods, from fresh bakery items to outdoor clothing.
Castle Gardens offer a delightful green space, rising from Dunoon's ferry port to the historic Castle House, which is now a museum. There are further green spaces at the restored Burgh Hall and between the Hall and St John's church. However the main open space in Dunoon is the beach on the shore of the Bonnie Clyde. Our hotel, the Selborne, includes a delightful lawn leading down to the river at West Bay, with exceptional views across to Muirshiel.
We pride ourselves on delivering consistently high standards throughout our hotels: clean rooms, good quality décor, bright modern bathrooms and attention to the small details that make all the difference to your stay. All hotels have a ballroom or large area for dancing and most have comfortable lounges, sun lounges or games areas where you're free to while away the hours. Many guest rooms boast fabulous sea views, and all are immaculately presented and provided with an en suite bath or shower & WC, central heating, hair dryer, tea/coffee making facilities and television with radio channels. Most also have internal telephones to take incoming calls, contact Reception or call other rooms.
The hotel has twelve ground floor bedrooms. There is level access to the bar, restaurant, lounges and all ground floor rooms from Reception and the main entrance. There is a lift which serves all floors but does stop on a half landing. Guests will need to be able to negotiate 4 stairs from the lift, however please note that there may be additional stairs to some Bedrooms. The third floor rooms in a section of the hotel are not served by the lift. Please ensure you submit a special requirements form if you have any mobility difficulties which may affect your holiday.
