One of Britain’s most scenic areas is The Derbyshire Dales, England. A rural local authority with over 100 picturesque villages, bustling market towns, historic buildings and the breath-taking Peak National Park – the Derbyshire Dales has it all. Loaded with fresh air, stunning green valleys, rugged moorland and cosy stone cottages, it is a picture-perfect destination. With a wealth of character and unique experiences, it is a popular destination among tourists who enjoy leisurely holidays to Derbyshire Dales. Take a step back in time and discover the wealth of historic houses, including Chatsworth, medieval Haddon Hall and the National Trust’s stately Sudbury Hall – there is plenty to amuse the history enthusiast. Visit Hathersage Churchyard to view the 10-foot-long grave of Little John, Robin Hood’s faithful companion. Be sure to take some time to visit the market towns of Bakewell, Ashbourne and Wirksworth; all individually unique in style and character.
Bakewell is perhaps best known for its delicious pudding; the Bakewell Pudding is said to have been an accidental discovery around 1860 at the White Horse Inn. A nobleman ordered a strawberry tart, and instead of adding the egg to the cake mix, the cook added it last and spread it on top of the jam – leading to a tasty mistake! Bakewell has so much more to offer, from speciality shops to local produce and gentle strolls with beautiful landscapes, including the ancient stone bridge spanning over the River Wye in Bakewell.
