Itinerary

Day 1 - Outward Travel

Day 2 - Tiverton Canal & Knightshayes Court

  • Scenic tranquillity awaits as we glide through the Devon countryside on our horse-drawn barge.
  • The Tiverton Canal was intended to be part of a much longer watercourse from The Bristol Channel to the English Channel.
  • The Grand Western Canal was never finished and today only the stretch near Tiverton is navigable.
  • Knightshayes (entry included in tour cost) is a Victorian country house surrounded by acres of glorious gardens and parkland.
  • The house is a rare example of the work of William Burges. Full of quirks and curiosities, it is a house of many faces.
  • The formal and woodland garden is one of the finest and most varied plant collections in the country with over 1200 varieties.

Day 3 - Day at Leisure

  • Today is left free to allow for relaxing in the hotel or exploring the local area.
  • Don't hesitate to enquire with the hotel reception regarding local attractions and travel options.

Day 4 - Exe Estuary & Powderham Castle

  • We enjoy a scenic boat trip around the Exe estuary.
  • Informative commentary brings to life the many interesting sights on the river's banks.
  • A large sand-spit at the river's mouth ensures the waters here are generally calm.
  • This extraordinary castle (entry included in tour cost) is the Grade 1 listed seat of the Earls of Devon, with Grade 2* listed gardens.
  • Powderham Castle lies in a beautiful deer park on the banks of the River Exe, just a stone's throw from the historic cathedral city of Exeter.
  • Highlights in the house include the Marble Hall, Staircase Hall and the spectacular music room with an original Axminster carpet from 1798.

Day 5 - Return Travel

Clients are permitted to remain on the coach only when the driver is present. We are members of the Confederation of Passenger Transport and the Coach Tourism Association – bodies established to encourage standards of excellence in our industry.
