Newquay & Cornish Gardens

Resort - Newquay

Overview

Newquay is Cornwall's premier holiday resort boasting some of the finest coastline and beaches in Europe. Although well known as Britain's surfing capital, there are many other activities and the surrounding countryside has an endless wealth of fascinating places to visit. The town is an ancient one, dating from the fifteenth century when a new quay was constructed. The heart of the town is the old harbour but it spreads along the cliff tops which stand behind the eleven magnificent sandy beaches. Newquay offers wonderful cliff and beach walks, a picturesque harbour to explore and the variety of activities one associates with such a major resort, including swimming pools, golf, putting, squash, tennis, bowls, boating, shark fishing and horse riding. There are also the atmospheric smugglers' pubs which are a living reminder of the more colourful side of Cornwall's history!

Day 2 - Lost Gardens of Heligan & Mevagissey

  • After breakfast we travel to one of the most loved gardens in the UK. Once lost to the brambles of time, The Lost Gardens of Heligan have been rediscovered and lovingly restored. 200 acres of adventure have been curated to let little legs and old minds run free. Explore dappled woodland trails, discover over 300 varieties of heritage fruit, vegetables, and herbs, meet native rare breed animals and meander through a magical estate unlike any other. Later in the day we visit the small, unspoilt fishing village of Mevagissey. Discover the many galleries and shops that cluster around the harbour walls or visit the museum and learn all about the history of the village, stacked with memorabilia and local artefacts, the museum brings the history of the village to life.

Day 3 - Full day to Looe and Polperro

  • Discover two of Cornwall’s most enchanting destinations as we make our way to Looe and Polperro. Sandy beaches, rockpools and working fishing port make Looe one of the most popular spots on Cornwall’s southern coast – Looe island which is perched just off the seafront was once a holy pilgrimage site and now is a sanctuary for rare plants and wildlife. Further along the coast lies Polperro, where the narrow street are lined by pretty cottages that lead down to the old historic fishing harbour – a delight to explore!

In early spring, Trebah Gardens comes alive with a colourful array of 100 year old rhododendrons, magnolias and camellias; in summer, the giant gunnera is a must see. In autumn, Hydrangea Valley casts clouds of china blue and soft white across Mallard Pond and in winter, their spectacular champion trees dominate the landscape.
