Aberfoyle, in the heart of the Trossachs, was once an important slate mining town and is now a picturesque tourism centre with a bustling Main Street. The magnificent surrounding scenery formed by the geological Highland Boundary Fault features in Sir Walter Scott’s The Lady of the Lake. Rob Roy and Mary Queen of Scots both visited Aberfoyle. Later the town was claimed by its most famous resident, the Rev Robert Kirk, to be the gateway to a fairy kingdom.
Clients are permitted to remain on the coach only when the driver is present. Excursion days may be altered to suit circumstances which arise or to take advantage of forecast changes in the weather, local events or drivers’ hours regulations. If it is important you visit somewhere on a specific day, please check in advance with your driver. The itinerary is designed to be a guide to the places encompassed by the tour, and the mention of certain towns or attractions does not necessarily imply that a stop will be made at the town or point of interest, unless specifically indicated in the itinerary or holiday brochure. All details contained in this itinerary were correct at the time of writing however changes may have occurred since printing. Every effort is made to rectify any errors as and when they come to our attention.
Recently refurbished the Rob Roy Hotel, named after legendary folk hero, Rob Roy MacGregor is wonderfully situated at the edge of the Trossachs within Scotland’s first National Park. A short stroll along the banks of the Forth River will take you to the village of Aberfoyle, where you will find a variety of shops selling local arts, crafts and clothing. There are also Visitor Centres in the village. This traditional Scottish Country Hotel consists of three buildings linked with a covered walk-way. The restaurant offers a varied menu sourced from local produce and suppliers, whilst the Thistle Bar has pleasant ambience in which to relax.
