Wonderful Weymouth

Resort - Weymouth

Overview

Weymouth is one of Britain's oldest seaside resorts, made popular by George III whose statue stands on the promenade. It has just about everything one could ask for in a seaside town: a lovely curving bay with soft sands, a fascinating harbour with interesting old pubs and cottages, the remains of a Tudor castle, some engaging architecture, a wide variety of shops and plenty to entertain both day and night. Add to this a bird reserve which is almost in the centre of town, a museum, an indoor swimming pool and lots of boat trips and you are sure to have an absorbing holiday.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Outward Travel

Day 2 - Full Day Dorchester, West Bay & Dorset Coast

  • Visit historic Dorchester, the county town of Dorset. The birthplace of author and poet Thomas Hardy, the town enjoys a rich history dating back as far as the Iron Age. Explore at leisure before we make our way to the coast and visit pretty West Bay which is situated on the Jurassic Coast. The towering cliffs loom over the sea and this was the setting of TV’s popular mystery drama Broadchurch. We return to Weymouth following the route of Chesil Beach, an 18-mile shingle barrier beach and one of Dorset’s most iconic landmarks.

Day 3 - Day at Leisure

Day 4 - Full Day Swanage & Poole

  • We travel through the beautiful countryside of the Isle of Purbeck, beneath the ruins of Corfe Castle to reach the seaside town of Swanage. Renowned for its beautiful beaches, Swanage has a rich history and a variety of attractions and activities to enjoy. We also visit Poole – famous for its deep water harbour and historic waterfront. The large island that lies in the bay is Brownsea Island, the birthplace of scouting.

Day 5 - Return Travel

The Royal Hotel

The elegant, Grade II listed Royal Hotel is right on Weymouth seafront placing you at the heart of the classic seaside resort. The Royal Hotel is an impressive building of intricate architecture built in the ‘Free Renaissance’ style and boasts fantastic views over the beach and bay. Only a short stroll to the shops, seaside attractions and the famously beautiful harbour and marina, the location could not be better for exploring all that Weymouth has to offer.
