Scottish Spectacular at Ardgowan Estate

Resort - Dunoon

Overview

Dunoon is splendidly situated on the western shores of the Firth of Clyde, where Loch Long and Holy Loch join the sea. It boasts some lovely gardens, two bays, and a flat promenade - perfect for that most traditional of seaside occupations, strolling along the prom! There is a modern indoor swimming pool with solarium and sauna, bowling greens, squash and tennis courts and both 9 and 18 hole golf courses. There are two cinemas and, in the season, entertainment at the Queens Hall. Within just a few miles is some of Scotland's most spectacular mountain scenery in the Argyll Forest Park. The journeys along Loch Eck and to Colintraive are amongst the most memorable anywhere in Scotland.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Outward Travel

Day 2 - Full day to Inveraray

  • Overlooking the still waters of Loch Fyne, Inveraray is a traditional county town in Argyll. Founded in 1745 by the 3rd Duke of Argyll, the town is a classic example of an 18th century town and Scottish Georgian architecture. Key buildings worth visiting include Inveraray Castle (entry not included), set in extensive grounds and fairy tale home to the Duke of Argyll, the neoclassical church and Inveraray Jail and courthouse, now an award-winning museum (entry not included).

Day 3 - High Tea & Bagpipes at Ardgowan

  • We make our way across the water to the splendid Ardgowan Estate. This magnificent, privately owned family home is steeped in history having been owned by the same family for over 600 years. Our private tour, escorted by the house owner, Sir Ludovic Shaw Stewart, 12th Baronet of Greenock & Blackhall takes in sprawling Scottish history, local folklore and social history enlivened with colourful family anecdotes. We’ll enjoy morning or afternoon high tea with refreshments, assorted sandwiches and traditional home-baking as well as a special bagpipe showcase. Learn more about this most important Scottish musical instrument with a performance, a lesson on practise chanter and a toast to the haggis!

Day 4 - Luss & Loch Lomond Shores

  • Enjoy a scenic trip to Loch Lomond as we visit the pretty village of Luss. A conservation village, many of the buildings at the heart of the village have stood since the 18th and 19th century and were originally built to accommodate workers from nearby quarries. Its prim cottages, pretty parish church and spectacular views of the loch combine for an interesting visit. We also call at Loch Lomond Shores situated at the southern tip of Loch Lomond.

Day 5 - Return Travel
