Grange-over-Sands - Lakes & Dales

Resort - Grange Over Sands

Overview

Since the early 19th century Grange has been a sea-bathing hotspot, initially with a few inns, hotels and private villas. In the Victorian era, especially following the completion of the railway from Lancaster in 1857, the town blossomed and became a popular seaside resort, with the development of larger hotels. Steam ships also called here from Morecambe and Lancaster and the factory owners of Lancashire and Yorkshire built villas for their families in what was becoming a fashionable and accessible weekend retreat. Today Grange is quieter and more relaxed, however the spectacular views across to Morecambe Bay and Arnside, which attracted the first visitors all those years ago, are just as delightful as ever.
