St Macartan’s Cathedral
The cathedral is the most imposing building in Monaghan town and dates from the mid-1800’s. The exterior walls are adorned with impressive statues of various saints and Bible characters and the interior contains beautiful tapestries and stained glass.

The House is a refurbished stone building which is now a gallery and music venue. Exhibitions are displayed on both floors and are changed on a regular basis.

The centre pffers information about the life of one of Ireland’s most notable poets and features 12 specially commissioned paintings illustrating his epic poem ‘The Great Hunger‘ and a miniature model depicting the classic ‘A Christmas Childhood‘.
Rossmore Forest Park
Located just 3½ km from the town centre, the park provides several forest walks, nature trails and a yew walk. The most scenic walk is the ‘Priestfield’ walk which is approximately 3 miles in length and leads past the Rossmore family crypt.
