The imposing 12th century castle was remodelled and restored in the 1830’s and sits in extensive parkland overlooking the city. Visitors can take a self-guided tour taking in the magnificent entrance hall, dining room and state rooms.

The house is the only example of an early 17th century merchant’s townhouse in Ireland. The site actually consists of three houses, built one behind the other with extensive gardens containing an orchard, vegetable gardens and a summer house.

A Dominican Church founded in 1225 by William Marshall, Earl of Pembroke, this Domincan Church has been restored to its original splendour, with a spectacular stained glass window and fascinating statues and relics on display.
The Hole in the Wall
Kilkenny’s renowned 16th century tavern is housed in the Archer Inner House, Ireland’s oldest surviving townhouse which is now open to visitors for the first time in hundreds of years. Windgap Grotto is situated around half an hour from Kilkenny. This fascinating grotto, the largest in Europe, features many walkways decorated with statues inlaid with quartz, as well as examples of Italian mosaic featuring three languages and Ongham stones.
