St Anton am Arlberg was established at the heart of one of the most strategically and commercially important alpine passes, nestled amongst some of the most awe-inspiring mountain scenery in Europe.
Famous as a ski resort and the birthplace of modern professional skiing, the town is steeped in local history and culture typical of this alpine region, from the 14th century ‘Thöni House’ to the distinctive local restaurants and cuisine. This resort provides the perfect blend of traditional local culture and modern conveniences, centred on a lively pedestrianised shopping street, with a huge range of both international and more traditional shops and restaurants.
In summer the green slopes are a carpet of flowers and a paradise for walkers, with trails through verdant woodland glades rising to the peace and tranquillity of the upper pastures. Its status as a premier ski resort ensures that it is well served by cable cars and other lifts enabling the less ambulent to enjoy the most spectacular views with the minimum of effort.
The Tyrolean countryside is breathtakingly beautiful and has long inspired poets, including such notable English writers as Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley and Lord Byron.
We use the Hotel Arlberg, situated at the heart of St Anton.
St Anton is a compact town with many of the main sights based around the central shopping area. The local swimming pool and fitness centre is also situated just a few minutes’ walk from this central zone.
