|Brittany and Paris – NEW Tour for 2015 – 850 – 8 Days
The contrast between the cosmopolitan chic of Paris and the charm of rural Brittany makes this tour a splendid introduction to the rich variety of France. Our base is either Dinan, a medieval walled city at the head of the Rance estuary or St. Malo, an historic port and modern holiday resort. We have two nights in Paris to sample the delights of this most elegant city and also include a visit to the scenes of the famous D-Day landings.
Full Day to Bayeux and Pegasus Bridge. We travel to Pegasus Bridge, scene of the daring British airborne landing on D-Day and have a brief look at the Normandy beaches before proceeding to Bayeux, home of the famous tapestry depicting the invasion of Britain in 1066. Full Day to Mont St. Michael and St. Malo/Dinan. One of the most remarkable buildings in Europe, the monastery of Mont St. Michael (entrance included) sits astride a huge granite outcrop. On departures based in Dinan we then proceed to look at the old walled port of St. Malo. On departures based in St. Malo we visit the walled city of Dinan.
|Istrian Riviera – NEW Tour for 2015 – 845 – 13 Days
Opatija, on Croatia’s Istrian coast, is the tourist capital of this delightful peninsula surrounded by the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic. Built around a 12th century Benedictine abbey, Opatija gained a reputation as a climatic health resort in Victorian times, attracting visitors from all over Europe including Wilhelm II, the composer Gustav Mahler and the playwright Anton Chekhov.
Full Day to Postojna Caves and Lipica Stud Farm. The Postojna Cave system is one of the world’s largest and includes several vast chambers including a Concert Hall! Lipica is a world famous stud farm. (Entrance to both caves and stud farm included in price).
Full Day Tour of Istrian Peninsula. Today we see the vast Roman amphitheatre at Pula, the picturesque town of Rovinj and the magnificent basilica at Porec.
Full Day Excursion to Plitvice Lakes. A lovely scenic drive takes us along the coast and then inland to the Plitvice National Park, a World Natural Heritage site with a string of beautiful lakes and waterfalls. (Entrance to the National Park included in price).
|Dutch Bulbfields – 811 – 5 Days
In springtime the fields of Holland burst into colour and from our base in Ostend where we visit the famous Keukenhof Gardens, the largest flower garden in Europe. Walking through the gardens you will experience strong scents from the tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other varieties of spring bulbs and many other plants and flowers.
Full Day to Keukenhof Gardens. A long and rewarding day as we travel into Holland to see the famous bulbs known throughout the world as a symbol of the horticultural genius of Holland. Millions of bulbs explode into an overwhelming colourful display. (Entrance included in the tour cost).
Full Day to Ghent. Often referred as the Heart of Flanders, Ghent is an historic town with cobbled streets and pleasant street cafes in the many little squares which lie alongside pretty canals. (Guided walking tour included in tour cost).
