YOUR RESORT

Fort William, the 'Outdoor Capital of the UK' is the largest town in the western Highlands. It is situated at the southern end of the Great Glen, on the shores of crystal clear Loch Linnhe beneath towering Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain. Nearby Aonach Mor ski-resort offers Britain's only alpine cable car, rising over 2000 feet with superb views of the Great Glen. The surrounding countryside has some of Britain's most spectacular and romantic scenery and its torrid history has produced more than 30 battlefields in the Lochaber area alone. As a touring centre, it is simply unparalleled: Inverness, Oban, Skye, Iona and Speyside all make superb full day excursions and there are lots of places within half an hour's drive including Glenfinnan and, of course, breathtaking Glencoe.

TOWN CENTRE

Fort William is a busy market town. It boasts a fine array of shops and an interesting selection of bars and restaurants catering for most tastes. At its centre, Cameron Square is the focus of entertainment and is the venue for many live concerts. The Nevis Centre hosts shows and also has a ten pin bowling alley.

LOCHS

The long narrow expanse of water on which Fort William sits is Loch Linnhe, which extends from Loch Eil at its northern end, to the sea at the Sound of Mull and Firth of Lorne. Loch Linnhe is remarkably picturesque, attracting photographers from all corners of the world. Boat trips are offered on the loch, for general sightseeing or more specialist pursuits such as fishing and seal spotting. A small island near the south-eastern shore of the lake is host to Castle Stalker, the setting for Monty Python & The Holy Grail.
