Coach Holidays to Southport – Southport is without doubt one of Britain’s most elegant seaside resorts – the ‘jewel of the north west’. It was founded in the late 18th century by William Sutton who established a sea-bathing house amongst the dunes on the unique Sefton coastline and it has since developed into one of the north west’s classiest towns.
Browse the vast array of shops on famous Lord Street; its broad tree-lined boulevard with covered walkways and arcades inspired Prince Louis Napoleon to remodel Paris along similar lines in the mid-nineteenth century. Take a stroll in one of Southport’s award-winning parks and gardens, which provide the setting for the world famous Southport Flower Show every August. Marvel at the stunning views available from Southport pier, the longest overland pier in Great Britain.
For golfing enthusiasts, Southport also offers some of the best facilities in the country, including the renowned Royal Birkdale course which hosts some of the most important tournaments in the golfing calendar.
It certainly is a wonderful place to spend a few relaxing days and it also provides the ideal base for excursions to other places of interest in the North-West, such as vibrant Liverpool, historic Chester and the wonderfully scenic Sefton coastline.
We use the Prince of Wales Hotel, situated in the heart of town on Lord Street.
Southport’s Lord Street, a mile-long tree-lined boulevard, is the focal point for shopping enthusiasts. Here, visitors will find a fantastic range of retailers, from sweet shops and souvenirs to famous brand names and designer boutiques. There are plenty more opportunities to shop on Chapel Street, Eastbank Street, Tulketh Street, Wesley Street and King Street, as well as in the renowned glass vaulted arcades such as Wayfarers and Cambridge.
Beach and Gardens
This stretch of coastline is blessed with beautiful beaches and those at Southport, Formby and Ainsdale (the North West’s first Blue Flag beach) frequently win awards for cleanliness and for good access for the disabled and mobility impaired, as well as offering superb views of the Sefton coast. At least as famous as its beaches are Southport’s fantastic gardens which include Hesketh Park, a beautiful Victorian Botanic Garden in Churchtown, with a Grade II listed conservatory, aviary and rock features and the tranquil Victoria Park, the venue for the world-famous annual Southport Flower Show.
