Originally a Celto-Roman settlement named Lutetia and was founded on the Île de la Cité, the island in the Seine now occupied by the Cathédral de Nôtre Dame. Paris has long captured the hearts and imaginations of artists, poets and authors. The city is synonymous with romance and has provided the setting for countless movies and novels. With its world famous monuments, superb museums and galleries, pavement cafés, romantic river setting and stylish boutiques and designer fashion houses, the French capital has so many attractions that it is impossible to see them all in one visit. Despite its size, negotiating the city could not be easier, thanks to its fast metro system, but for a relaxing afternoon away from the bustle why not enjoy a lazy boat cruise along the Seine and take in the breathtaking sights and cosmopolitan atmosphere that have earned Paris its reputation as ‘the capital of romance’.
We stay at the Ibis Hotel Paris La Villette, situated in the northeast of Paris opposite the Canal de l’Ourcq, a lush green corridor running into the heart of the city.
