Mercator ship
This magnificent three-masted ship, although decommissioned, is still kept in sea-worthy condition and now houses an interesting museum.

The Atlantikwall
An impressive complex of tunnels and bunkers which were built by the German troops in both the First and Second World Wars to defend against invasion from across the Channel.

Fort Napoleon
The only surviving, intact Napoleonic fort in Europe, which stands amongst dunes just to the north of the city centre. Built by 500 Spanish prisoners of war in 1810, it is a really unique historical site.

Ostend Art Museums
Ostend has a number of interesting museums. The Provincial Museum of Modern Art is one of the most important museums of modern art in Belgium, offering an overview of the recent history of Belgian art. The Museum of Fine Arts exhibits works by both Belgian and international artists.

Located on the seafront, this is undoubtedly the cultural hub of Ostend and is perfect for an evening of excitement. It also houses a concert hall which has some of ‘the best acoustics in the entire world…’ according to Herbert von Karajan, one of the most renowned conductors in music history.

Miniature Train
A relaxing trip that takes in many of Ostend’s best tourist sites.

North Sea Aquarium
Located on the Fisherman’s Quay, visitors can admire the flora and fauna of the North Sea. This is an instructive and interesting way of getting to know the underwater world.
