Activities and Attractions
St Malo History Museum
The museum has collections housed in two towers of the castle, the General and the Solidor towers. The museum explores the town’s maritime and exploration history and its connection with the ‘Cape Horners’.
St Malo Botanical Gardens
Created in 1847, the gardens consist of 27 hectares featuring 24 thematic gardens, each representing different regions of the world.
St Malo Grand Aquarium
The aquarium displays fish and sea life from around the world in 8 different aquariums. The aquariums include a circular fish tank, allowing visitors to stand in the middle of swirling fish shoals and an open air touching pool.
Now home to Dinan Museum, the chapel on the ground floor of the castle keep contains a collection of holy objects, furniture, and gold and silver ware, while the basement (which was once the castle kitchen) houses a collection of prehistoric tools.
Dinan Old Town
In a beautiful setting above the River Rance, the Old Town is a myriad of narrow cobblestone streets and squares lined with half-timbered houses.
The quay is lined with old stone houses, many of which are now waterside restaurants and chandlers’ shops. Take a walk along the old towpath, or cross the 15th-century stone bridge to Lanvallay to find out about life on the river in the Maison de la Rance Discovery Centre. There is also an impressive 40m (131ft) high viaduct which opened in 1852.
