Capital of Catalonia, this major city has a rich architectural heritage from the historic Barrio Gotico to the still-under-construction Sagrada Familia. Take the funicular up to the Olympic Park at Montjuic to experience panoramic views over the city and surrounding coastline.
An ancient fortified city with a magnificent cathedral and unusual spired church. Girona has been the scene of many historic battles involving Rome, Charlemagne, the Moors, Spain and France, as reflected in the fortifications which are evident throughout the old town. Regular markets and festivals are held.
Blanes and its Botanical Gardens
The coastal town of Blanes has excellent beaches and is famous for its annual fireworks festival, but the main attractions here are the ‘MarImurtra’ and ‘Pinya de Rosa’ botanical gardens, which together have around 10,000 species of plant on display.
