Coach Holidays to Felixstowe – Felixstowe is both a sunny south-facing seaside resort and a modern port, a few miles from Suffolk’s fascinating county town of Ipswich. Its five-mile coastline features one of the country’s most important nature reserves, tranquil sandy beaches, a fishing village and a bustling seafront and pier with all the attractions expected of a typical English seaside resort.
Along the promenade, Felixstowe’s celebrated colourful seafront gardens, which gives the town its title ‘The Garden Resort of East Anglia’ are regular winners of ‘Britain in Bloom’ contests. Landscaped and planted areas stretch for more than a mile along the promenade and include the terraced South Cliff Gardens alongside the Town Hall.
Nestling by Felixstowe is the tiny unspoilt fishing village of Felixstowe Ferry and the area features a striking sea-wall walk, with historical points of interest such as the Martello towers, remnants of the Napoleonic struggles. Felixstowe is one of the sunniest places in Britain and boasts a modern leisure centre, water sports facilities, funfair and a theatre.
We use the Marlborough Hotel, which is situated on the sea front, 250 yards south of the pier.
Felixstowe has an attractive modern shopping centre, part of a very pleasant town centre adorned with hanging baskets and floral arrangements. The centre for entertainment is the pier and has been since 1905 – perfect for amusements or an afternoon stroll.
Beach and Gardens
Felixstowe is blessed with a fine five-mile coastline between the estuaries of the rivers Deben and Orwell. Sand and shingle beaches provide a diverse range of pursuits from sunbathing to birdwatching, walking to water-skiing and fishing. The sandy beaches at the Dip at Old Felixstowe have been enjoyed by families for decades. The colourful Seafront Gardens, which sit on cliffs between the town centre and beach, stretch for a mile along the promenade and are a beautiful place to visit.
