Alfa Travel and our sister company, Leisureplex Hotels, have recently completed a week long challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support by covering 634 miles – the distance between Fort William and St. Ives! Over the course of a week staff walked, jogged, ran and cycled to clock up the miles before joining in with the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 26th September to enjoy a well-earned brew and piece of cake!
Currently we have raised over £5800, although that amount is still growing as donations continue to flood in!
Here is a summary of how we got on throughout the week…
We got off to a flying start with our staff members totalling 93 miles on day 1! If we had really been walking the route we’d have enjoyed the stunning scenery of the Trossachs National Park and would have passed Dunoon by now! Here is a photo of William Honeyball, the manager of our Leisureplex Selborne Hotel in Dunoon, who enjoyed a 3 mile walk to the Dunoon town sign and back.
By day 2 we made it to England! After another tough day of walking, running and cycling we managed to cover a huge 131 miles! Even though it was a very wet day the rain didn’t stop us! Here are some photos of Stephanie Clayton, our Marketing Executive and Lucy Jackson, our Product Co-Ordinator who were out walking in the wet weather clocking up the miles. We’ve now crossed the border and are enjoying the dramatic view of the Lake District, England’s largest National Park.
On day 3 we managed to cover 127 miles and we reached Shewsbury! If we were really walking the route we would have passed through Blackpool today and we may have even got to see the illuminations! Here are the staff from the Leisureplex Queens Hotel in Blackpool ready to complete their walk along the Golden Mile! Also, David Rimmer and Kevin Suffel from our Accounts team visited the Queens Hotel in Blackpool on Wednesday and added another 1.8 miles to our distance!
Today we managed to cover a huge 136 miles! After another busy day clocking up the miles, we have passed through Weston-super-Mare and are ready and raring to go to meet the finish line tomorrow! Here is a photo of staff outside out Anchor Head Hotel in Weston-super-Mare.
Unbelievably we didn’t just reach St. Ives – we passed it! Here’s the Manager of the Leisureplex Cottage Hotel in St. Ives, Ingo Maxfield, adding 11 miles to our total and ensuring we covered all 634 miles! Trevor, our Maintenance Supervisor, and David Vickerman, the Manager of the Leisureplex Eliot Hotel in Newquay also joined in and added another 34 miles between them! So we turned around and started heading back up the country! We decided to stop there though, put our feet up and enjoy a slice of cake! Well done everyone!
On Friday 26th September we held the Alfa Bake Off competition at Head Office as part of our Macmillan Coffee Morning. As you can see there were some fantastic cakes with our very own Paul and Mary judging the entries! Together the pair enjoyed a variety of cake, from a Victoria sponge in a bucket, to an almond cake themed around the castle views on offer from the George IV hotel in Criccieth. The winner was a lemon cake shaped like an Alfa coach! Well done to our Product Co-Ordinator, Lucy Jackson, on her winning entry!
Leisureplex Bake Sales:
All 21 Leisureplex Hotels took part in their own Bake Sales with staff members showing off their family recipes with some delicious bakes. As you can see there were lots of very tasty cakes, we hope all our guests enjoyed them!
We would like to say a huge thank you to anyone that has supported us over this past week and helped us smash our fundraising target for Macmillan. However, if you would still like to donate then it’s not too late, you can still donate via our Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/alfaleisureplex/
